Why MedRune exists

Omer Alavna studied programming before medicine and continued working with software and AI. A graduate of Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, he brings those interests together in MedRune: the study tool he wishes had existed when he was preparing for board exams.

Studying medicine means making sense of difficult mechanisms while keeping a large amount of information in reach. An explanation may make sense today and still be hard to recall next week. MedRune is designed to connect those moments: understand the idea, apply it in a question, then return to it through spaced repetition.

That is the purpose behind its questions, flashcards, illustrated chapters and audio lessons. The aim is to help students build understanding and keep it, alongside rotations, family and the rest of life.

AI and editorial work

AI helps draft explanations, format content, create illustrations and narrate lessons. Omer leads the product and editorial work, using review tools and model-based checks to identify material that needs correction. This does not mean every item or live AI response has been individually reviewed by a physician.

What we believe

• Mechanism over memorization.

  Step 1 rewards understanding pathways, not just recognizing facts. Our content is structured around mechanism explanations that link cause to effect.

• Adaptive, not just digital.

  Spaced repetition for flashcards, weakness-targeted MCQ selection, and exam-date-aware study plans. The product reshapes itself around the student.

• Honest pricing.

  We publish planned subscription options and distinguish those plans from currently available access. See pricing.

• Physician-led editorial work.

  AI supports drafting; editorial tools support review and correction. Editors can flag content that needs attention and manage corrections in the admin dashboard.

The product and business

MedRune is subscription software for USMLE candidates. It combines two study books—The Companion and The Final Stretch—with questions, spaced-repetition flashcards, mechanism explanations, and audio. The full application is in beta; planned subscription options are published separately.
